DALTON, Mass. – Mount Greylock’s Katherine Goss was a triple winner on Saturday to highlight a successful meet for the Mounties at the Berkshire County Individuals.

Goss swept the 100-meter and 400-meter hurdles and took first in the triple jump.

Mount Greylock, the reigning Division 5 State Champion, took home eight titles from the non-scored event.

Rowan Apotsos won the 200 and 400 and ran a leg on the Mounties’ winning 4-by-100 relay quartet.

Nora Lopez won the javelin and, on Friday night, Teresa Moresi won pole vault contested on the Williamstown campus.

The other double winner in the girls meet was Pittsfield’s Dezerea Powell, who won the long jump and the 100.

The meet, normally the start of the post-season for county athletes, was contested with several rescheduled dual meets yet to come this week.

But the runners, jumpers and throwers appeared to be in championship form. Nine of the girls’ marks and eight of the boys’ marks on Saturday were the best recorded in a Berkshire County meet this season.

Some of the biggest moments included Taconic’s Elijah Harewood running a sub-11 hundred (10.90) on his way to a 100-200 double and Pittsfield’s Owen Klatka just missing the school record in the high jump, 6 feet, 6 inches.

“I think if I’m able to start around 6 or 6-2, I’ll be able to get it,” Klatka said, explaining that he was worn down after starting at 5-10 and clearing 6-0, 6-2, 6-4 and the winning height of 6-5.

He did pace himself a little bit on Sunday.

“Every meet I’ve high jumped, I did the 100 or the 200 right before. So I asked my coach if I could do the high jump fresh, and it made a difference.”

In addition to Harewood, the other double-winner on the boys side was Julius Kablan of host Wahconah.

Kablan won the shot put and discus and ran a leg on Wahconah’s winning 4-by-100 relay team, helping his school sweep the relays.

With those relays and individual wins from Lorenzo Lewis (400) and Cooper Calvert (long jump), Wahconah’s boys secured victories in seven events, most of any school in the county.

Wahconah will cap the dual meet season on Wednesday when it goes Monument Mountain to take on Lenox.

After that, the next stop for all the county’s track and field athletes is the Western Massachusetts Championships on Saturday at Mount Greylock.
