PITTSFIELD, Mass. – Morrie Fried went 4-for-4 with a home run, a double and four runs batted in Wednesday to lead the Pittsfield baseball team to a 16-2 win over Frontier in the Division 4 State Tournament Round of 16.

Andrew Hammill hit a solo homer in his varsity debut, and Jason Codey went 2-for-4 with a double and a pair of RBIs in a 16-hit attack for the Generals.

“Jack Abel ignited the offense and Fried barreled the ball today,” Pittsfield coach Drew Pearce said. “Burega was dominant in relief, and it was the epitome of a team win.”

Burega was the second of four Pittsfield pitchers to take the mound. They combined to strike out seven and allow five hits.

Abel was 2-for-4 with three RBIs and scored three times at the top of the lineup.

Top-seeded Pittsfield (19-4) advances to play the winner of Thursday’s game between Uxbridge and Clinton.
