Nantucket Girls Lacrosse Stops Wahconah
NANTUCKET, Mass. – The eighth-seeded Nantucket girls lacrosse team outscored Wahconah, 5-1, in the third quarter to pull away for a 15-4 win on Monday in the Division 4 State Tournament.
Danielle Hagmaier had a goal and an assist, and Brooke Thomas, Brooke Harrington and Anna Doyle each scored in the loss.
“What a great experience for the girls team going out to Nantucket,” Wahconah coach Kathy Budaj said. “At the end of the first quarter, we were down 3-0. We came out and scored quickly which prompted Nantucket to take a timeout. Our defense was stellar, they kept denying opportunities and Phalyn [Renderer] made some fantastic saves.
“Unfortunately, we got two penalties right at the end of the second quarter and they scored 4 quick goals so at half it was a 7-1 game.”
Renderer made 14 saves in the loss.
Wahconah finishes its season with a record of 13-8, including the program’s first Western Massachusetts Championship.
