Greenfield Tops McCann Tech Softball in Western Mass Semis

GREENFIELD, Mass. – MacKenzie Paulin went 4-for-4 with a pair of doubles and a pair of RBIs Saturday to lead the Greenfield softball team to a 13-3 win over McCann Tech in the semi-finals of the Western Massachusetts Class C Tournament.
 
Paulin earned the complete-game win in the circle, striking out six, walking one and allowing no earned runs.
 
The Hornets scored three unearned runs in the top of the second to take a 3-0 lead.
 
Ryleigh Rathbun got the rally started with a double to left field. Aiden Champney reached on a dropped third strike to put runners at the corners.
 
With two out, Nora Kondel reached on a two-base error that allowed Rathbun and Champney to score. Kondel then scored on Avery Lane’s RBI single.
 
The Green Wave took the lead in the bottom of the third with five runs and tacked on four more in the bottom of the fourth to make it a 9-3 game.
 
Lane and Emma LeMire split time in the circle for McCann Tech, combining to strike out seven and allow five earned runs.
 
Rathbun led the Hornets offense, going 3-for-3 with two doubles. Shaylee Lawson went 2-for-4 at the plate.
 
McCann Tech (11-5) waits to hear who it will face to start the Division 5 State Tournament.
