Taconic Edges Wahconah in Western Mass

PITTSFIELD, Mass. – Maddie Harrington singled to center field in the bottom of the sixth to break a 3-3 tie and send the Taconic softball team on to a 4-3 win over Wahconah in the Western Massachusetts Class B Quarter-Finals.

 

Wahconah led, 3-2, after a Madison McCarthy solo home run in the top of the sixth.

 

Abby Soto opened the bottom of the inning with a leadoff double for Taconic. She moved up on a ground ball out from Toni Ahoussie.

 

Madi Barber then singled to drive in Soto and tie the game.

 

Barber moved into scoring position on a pitch that got to the backstop ahead of Harrington’s game-winning hit.

 

Wahconah put the tying run on second base with two out in the top of the seventh, but Cheyann Goddard got a fly ball out to Ella Stodden in center field to end the game.

 

Goddard went the distance in the circle, allowing two earned runs. She also helped her cause by going 2-for-2 with an RBI.

 

McCarthy was 2-for-2 for Wahconah, which also got a pair of hits from Marlee Arnhold.

 

Fourth-seeded Taconic (11-8) advances to the Class B Semi-Finals, where it will face No. 1 Hampshire, a 14-0 winner over Pope Francis on Wednesday.

 

Wahconah (9-10) will finish its regular season against an opponent to be determined.
